Pour Maria A. When is reduced satisfaction in performance attributable to the anhedonia of MDD, and when is it attributable to burnout? Is depersonalization a symptom of burnout or a coping strategy, as suggested in Rotenstein et al? Of note, a study stating that burnout can lead to suicidal ideation had important methodological limitations. Further, a study in a similar population showed that suicidal ideation was associated with depression rather than burnout. Given risks associated with suicidal ideation, it is imperative that the presence of suicidal ideation lead to an evaluation to rule out MDD. The 11th Revision of ICD (<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/mental_health\/evidence\/burn-out\/en\/\"><em>ICD-11<\/em><\/a><em>) in May, 2019, provided a more detailed definition of burnout, characterising it as a syndrome of three dimensions\u2014feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion, increased mental distance from one&#8217;s job or feelings of cynicism or negativism about one&#8217;s job, and reduced professional efficacy. Notably, burnout has been further emphasised in ICD-11 as an occupational phenomenon rather than a medical condition. (\u2026)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The simplicity of calorie-counting explains its appeal. Metrics that tell consumers the extent to which foods have been processed, or whether they will suppress hunger, are harder to understand. Faced with the calorie juggernaut, none has gained wide acceptance.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The scientific and health establishment knows that the current system is flawed. A senior adviser to the UN\u2019s Food and Agriculture Organisation warned in 2002 that the Atwater \u201cfactors\u201d of 4-4-9 at the heart of the calorie-counting system were \u201ca gross oversimplification\u201d and so inaccurate that they could mislead consumers into choosing unhealthy products because they understate the calories in some carbohydrates. The organisation said it would give \u201cfurther consideration\u201d to overhauling the system but 17 years later there is little momentum for change. But the field he inspired has ballooned beyond what he could have imagined. For example, it\u2019s illegal to sell your organs in the United States.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Data doesn\u2019t feel as personal as a kidney. But the potential for economic exploitation is just as rife. Data ownership could lead privacy to become more of a luxury good than it already is.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Still, the idea of data as property is gaining momentum.
